Salaat Class – Lesson Number 4
The first prayer of Salaat after ‘Neeyat’ is ‘Thaana’. This is recited silently at the beginning of the first Raka’t.
Thana Prayer

Transliteration:
Subhanakallah-humma wa bihamdika wa tabarakasmuka wa ta'ala jadduka wala ilaha ghairuka.
Translation:
Holy art Thou, O Allah, and all praise is Thine; blessed is Thy name, and exalted is Thy state. There is none worthy of worship except Thee alone. (Tirmadhi, Kitab-us-Salat, Ma Yaquoola inda iftahis Salati; Sunan Nisai, Kitabul Iftah, Babul Zikr bainal Salat wa bainal Quirat.)
This prayer inculcates in the worshipper from the outset of prayer that all praise belongs to Allah and that none is worthy of worship save Him. Thus by saying this prayer it draws the attention of the worshipper to the fact that that God is the Supreme Being and a person’s salvation is thus in the His Hands. When a person realises this it naturally makes him pray with greater humility.
May Allah bless you.
