MKA Research Association Symposium Birmingham

MKA Research Association Symposium Birmingham

By the grace of Allah, MKA Research Association held a symposium on the important topic of “Evolution” on 27th November 2010. Dr Muhammad Ashraf, Naib Regional Amir of Midlands chaired the symposium.

The symposium started at approximately 11:30 am with Tilawat by Tanweer Dar. The first presentation was by Muhammad Arif, who is undertaking a PhD in Biomedical Sciences, covered the topic of Evolution and Genetics. He mentioned the Qur’anic view on the creation of the universe, how living creatures evolved on earth over time and the problems faced by evolutionary biologists in explaining sudden jumps and disappearances in species.

The second presentation was by Dr Adeel Bajwa, a practicing doctor with special interest in evolution. He covered the topic of ‘Evolution: Design or Chance.’ He gave four main evidence streams why evolution was guided rather than just a bunch of chance occurrences namely: i) survival of the fittest not most complex, ii) irreducible complexity, iii) punctuated equilibrium and iv) lack of vestigiality. He presented the arguments in favour of design, the ways atheists try to answer them and refutations to these answers.

Both presentations were mainly based on the Hadhrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad Khalifatul Masih IV’s (ru) magnum opus “Revelation, Rationality, Knowledge & Truth.” Both presenters emphasised turning towards the Holy Qur’an that contained the real answers regarding the process of evolution. The presentations invited a healthy discussion and the presenters answered questions raised by the audience of Khuddam. Some audience members also shared their experiences of discussions they had on evolution and existence of God and clarified some of their concepts. All-in-all, it was a great learning experience for all Khuddam present.

Zuhr Salat was offered between the presentations after which lunch consisting of pizzas and chips was served. The programme came to an end with Asr Salat. Dr Tauseef Khan, Chairman of MKA Research Association thanked the Chief Guest, the presenters and Khuddam for coming to the symposium. Shiraz Sethi , Mohmtamim Amoor-e-Tuluba led the concluding silent prayers.

A total of 18 Khuddam attended the event. The event was video recorded by Midlands Ishaat team led by Mubarak Chaudhry Sahib.
