Imperial College Ahmadiyya Muslim Students Association (Imperial AMSA) has been established for a number of years. It allows Imperial College Ahmadi students to meet regularly and help one another as well as utilising the University’s resources so that arrangements can be made for congregational prayers and hosting events and activities. The Imperial AMSA society also provides an ideal platform from which the true message of Islam and Ahmadiyyat can be conveyed to the body of students and staff at the University. The society assists in the promotion of interfaith dialogue through its many conferences.
Imperial AMSA society was represented by a stall at the Fresher’s Fair held on 7th October 2008. The stall exhibited various Posters highlighting the view of the wider Ahmadiyya Muslim Community on contemporary issues such as Jihad, Terrorism etc. There were also posters highlighting the charity work undertaken by the Community world-wide. Numerous books, magazines, brochures and leaflets were on display, authored by members of the Community. There were also large pictures of the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad the Promised Messiah, and of our current beloved Imam, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad. Sweets were distributed to visitors of the stall.
Throughout the academic year the College Chaplaincy organises interfaith dialogue sessions in which members of the Imperial AMSA society are regular members and participants. We feel that dialogue of this nature is a real necessity in the current climate, and it helps spread the message of peace, love and tolerance – qualities held at the forefront of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and so eloquently founded in the Community’s motto “Love for All, Hatred for None”
Interfaith events are a key aspect to the functioning of the Imperial AMSA society. It is a chance for students and staff of different religious backgrounds to convene and discuss the most fundamental features of religion common to everyone. Such events have been held in the past and have proven to be a real success. Imperial AMSA society is very fortunate to be able to invite learned members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to speak on issues relating to Islam. At such events all religious societies of Imperial College are invited to attend and benefit from the gathering.
The Imperial AMSA society committee members are elected every year in the Annual General Meeting. The President of the society automatically becomes a committee member of the Imperial College Student Union. The members and their brief backgrounds are as follows:
