Name:
Rizwan Safir
What do I do?
I am currently studying BSc in Archaeology at the University of Reading. Contrary to popular belief, archaeologists do not live a life like Indiana Jones (if only), as I have been asked on many occasions. What I can say is it combines study and research with physical work and travelling which is somewhat unique.
Study Path:
GCSE>A-Level>BSc Archaeology
My Interests and Future Plans:
I hope to continue my studies following this degree and go on to complete a Masters and PhD, Insha’Allah. The area of archaeology I am particularly interested in is Islamic archaeology; more specifically, the recovery and search for Prophet Noah’s (as) ark and egyptology.
Best Things and Worst Things about Research:
This is a difficult question for me to answer simply because I have only studied and completed up to A-Level as yet. However, I would assume a positive would be the opportunity to further your knowledge in an area of your interest. I’m assuming the negative would be the workload!
Publications/My Favourite Books/Useful Websites:
Two books I would highly recommend to individuals beginning their study in archaeology would be:
· Archaeology (A very short introduction) by Paul Bahn – A very quick look at the study of archaeology
· Archaeology: Theories, Methods and Practices by Colin Renfrew and Paul Bahn – A more thorough, yet interesting, look at archaeology on the whole
Websites I have found useful are:
