Thousands of young Muslims will gather in Tilford over the weekend for a popular and action-packed convention. Members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) will participate in their annual ‘Ijtema’ which includes educational programmes as well as sporting and academic competitions.
For the first time the event, which attracts more than 3,000 people from all over the UK, will feature cheque presentations to worthy British causes such as Great Ormond Street Hospital, Save the Children, the NSPCC and Leukaemia Research, who will receive a total of more than £100,000 from funds raised by AMYA at a charity challenge held in Bradford earlier in the year.
One of the focal points this year is the integration of youth into the fabric of society. To that end, the British Army and Police, continuing their long association with the event, will be joined by the Royal Navy, Fire and Ambulance services to give an overview of the opportunities available in their respective fields.
Tommy Kallon, President of AMYA, who will hoist the Union Flag at the Inaugural Session said:
“The Ijtema is always a hugely anticipated event and a good way of fostering brotherhood among our members.
“Our faith enjoins upon us service to the less fortunate and under privileged sections of society, which is why we have also committed ourselves to raising money for worthy British causes every year.
“We actively encourage our youngsters to consider looking into vocations such as the Police and Army because joining these professions is an excellent way of helping the wider community and contributing meaningfully to society.
“This unique event is an important platform for us to communicate with our youth and to emphasise the need for selfless service to humanity.”
Gracing the event with his august presence will be His Holiness, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, who has become renown for promoting the Community’s ‘Love for All, Hatred for None’ motto across the globe.
