Immediate Member Action Required: UK's 1st Anti-Terrorism Conference?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-10900478

In the news the past couple of days has been a 3 day conference being held by the Muslim group Minhaj ul-Quran at the University of Warwick in which 1000 Muslims are expected to attend and denounce terrorism. The media is giving it a fair amount of coverage and saying that it is the first conference of its type.

Hazur-Aqdas has instructed that UK Khuddam take up this matter immediately and write to appropriate newspapers / media and say that this is factually wrong.

The Ahmadiyya Muslims Association in the UK has just held its 44th such conference in which all forms of terror are denounced, proved to be against teachings of Islam and attendance is close to 30,000.

Actions

Members should write to all media outlets covering the story (a list of links is included below) and say something along the following lines:

The media seems to have taken great interest in "anti-terrorism conference" being held this weekend at the University of Warwick, incorrectly citing the 1000 strong gathering as the first of its kind.  While acknowledging it's noble intentions, public opinion in the conference seems to be leaning to the side of "too little, too late."

However, another UK based Muslim Association, established for over 80 years in the UK, has just held its 44th such conference where attendance topped 30,000.

The relative media coverage of the above events highlights one of the many difficulties UK Muslims face in presenting the true face of Islam and reaching out to all UK citizens as a tolerant people who want to integrate and live in peace.

The largely un-reported three-day international event held on the 30th July, 31st July & 1st August at Woodlands Farm, Alton, Hampshire; attracted more than 30,000 delegates from over 80 countries.

The event commenced with the raising of the Flag of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community simultaneously with the Union Jack as a symbol of the Community’s commitment and loyalty to the United Kingdom.  This was done in compliance with the instruction of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who taught that love of one’s nation is part of one’s faith.

Earlier while leading the Friday prayers, the Worldwide Leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, took the opportunity to speak about the true Islam, which is so often misrepresented in the media. His Holiness said Islam was a religion of peace, tolerance and mutual love and was based upon a love of God Almighty. This love was the reason why so many people had travelled so far, at great difficulty to take part in the event.

The Ahmadiyya Movement was established in 1889 by Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as), with the objective to rejuvenate Islamic moral and spiritual values. It encourages interfaith dialogue, and diligently defends Islam and tries to correct misunderstandings about Islam in the West. It advocates peace, tolerance, love and understanding among followers of different faiths. It firmly believes in and acts upon the Qur’anic teaching: “There is no compulsion in religion” (Chapter 2 Verse 257).

The Community strongly rejects violence and terrorism in any form and for any reason and operates under the motto; “Love for All, Hatred for None.”  Followers attend the Annual Conference, or ‘Jalsa’, to further improve their knowledge, spirituality and were able to listen to speeches about the role of religion in contemporary society and the misrepresentation of true Islam in the modern world throughout the weekend.
