An Islamic group said to have links to an extremist movement is planning to march through the Wiltshire town of Wootton Bassett.
Although Islam4UK is known to have links with militant extremism, the march has still been referred to in most Media reports as an 'Islamic March.' Home Secretary Alan Johnson, Gordon Brown, David Cameron and the town's MP James Gray all condemned the group's plans yesterday.
The town of Wootton Bassett has become famous for honouring British war dead returning from Afghanistan. Islam4UK is said to call itself a "platform" for the extremist movement al-Muhajiroun.
Leader of Islam4UK, former lawyer Anjem Choudary said it was "totally unacceptable to honour servicemen who had contributed directly or indirectly to the deaths of well over 100,000 Muslims in Afghanistan in the last 8 years and that as a result Islam4UK have decided to launch the 'Wootton Bassett March' to highlight the real casualties of this brutal Crusade."
Please write letters to local, regional and national media condemning the proposed Wootton Bassett March, explaining why this is not an 'Islamic March' as the actions & views of this minority extremist group are not consistent with Islam and putting these sporadic, desperate attempts for publicity into context with the positive work the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association has been doing in the UK for over 25 years.
Commenting on recent articles in the press, as well as writing to all Regional & Local Newspapers in the area of the proposed march are the primary focus points:

Islam, both through the sayings of the Holy Prophet (pbuh) and in the Holy Quran instructs Muslims to be loyal to their country and those in authority. A further look at the website of Islam4UK exposes more of their agenda to be completely inconsistent with basic Islamic principals.
Material on the website claims that Democracy, Secularism, Freedom of Religion and Freedom of Choice are concepts which have no existence in Islam and are against central tenants of Islam. This emphasises how far removed from the fundamental teachings of Islam and the beliefs and attitudes of most Muslims this minority extremist organisation are.
According to the Holy Quran, people have a free choice to adopt any system of rule which suits them. Democracy, sovereignty, tribal or feudal systems are valid provided they are accepted by the people as the traditional heritage of their society. However democracy is preferred and highly commended in the Holy Quran.
“Verily, Allah commands you to give over the trusts to those entitled to them, and that, when you judge between men, you judge with justice.”(4:59)
Two years after the death of the Holy Prophet in 634 A.D Omer Bin Khatab became the second rightly guided Caliph of Medinah. During his time he implemented a great system of administration. Omar governed the state of Islam on the principle of democracy.
He formed a Consultative Body of advisors and sought its advice and help in all important matters. For the sake of convenience of administration, he divided the empire into provinces and appointed a governor for each province. He introduced a system of old age pension, he established a department of finance for poor and needy. In his time a treaty was negotiated between the Muslims and the people of Jerusalem according to which the inhabitants' life, property and churches were given protection and Islam was not to be forced on them.
Perhaps the most resounding conclusion on all of these issues can be provided by the following:
The Holy Prophet himself once said, “This is a message from Muhammad ibn Abdullah, as a covenant to those who are Christian, near and far: we are with them. Verily I, my servants, my helpers, and my followers defend them, because Christians are my citizens; and by Allah! I hold out against anything that displeases them. No compulsion is to be on them… No one is to destroy a house of their religion, to damage it, or to carry anything from it to the Muslims’ houses. Should anyone take any of these, he would breach God’s covenant and disobey His Prophet. Verily, they are my allies and have my secure charter against all that they hate…The Muslims are to fight for them. If a female Christian is married to a Muslim, it is not to take place without her approval. She is not to be prevented from visiting her church to pray. Their churches are to be respected. They are not to be prevented from repairing them… No one of the Muslim nation is to disobey the covenant till the Last Day.”
British Muslims are lucky to live in a democratic state which protects their rights to worship and even promotes their rights to build mosques and add to the diversity of the country. That is why outside of any intelligent debate of the merits of the War in Afghanistan as an effective measure against terrorist attacks in this country, British Muslims are duty bound to accept that the British Army are simply doing their job on behalf of all British People. Therefore the repatriation ceremonies should be respected whole heartedly and compassion should be extended to the families of those who have lost their lives fighting for our country.
