    Belfast Telegraph

The company behind the world's most expensive clock to celebrate the royal wedding has unveiled its latest creation - the world's first luxury Muslim prayer clock. Smith of Derby launched the prayer clock, designed to be the most exclusive of its type in the world, at the UAE Interiors show in Abu Dhabi on May 9. The timepiece, which comes with a gold-leaf finish, sells for £20,000 and is aimed at bringing a focal point to prestigious interiors such as mosques and hotel receptions, as well as some homes. • Social background affects poverty' in Wales says study

    BBC News

A fifth of people in Wales live in poverty because of their social background, claims a new report. Research for the Equality and Human Rights Commission shows gender, disability and ethnicity all contribute to achievements at school and work. The study says Muslim men are 50% less likely to be in work than Christian men, while 76% of Muslim women are less likely to be in work. The Welsh Assembly Government will not comment until it has seen the report. The report, released by the Equality and Human Rights Commission in collaboration with the Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research, Data and Methods, says Wales has "deeply entrenched" inequalities. However, it claims the gap between the rich and the poor in Wales is narrower than the rest of the UK.

Dr Mohammed Iqbal, president of the association’s Bradford branch, said its advertisement campaign was especially important in the wake of last week’s killing by US special forces of terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden in Pakistan.

  • Killing of bin Laden queried at forum

    Irish Times

A SCHOLAR belonging to a minority Islamic sect has questioned the need to kill Osama bin Laden if he had been caught alive by US forces. Given the “serious fears of reprisal” reported over the past week, one had to question whether killing the al-Qaeda leader would make any difference to world security, Maulana Ataul Mujeeb Rashed said in Galway at the weekend. “These reports of fears of a kickback suggest that the violence becomes like a vicious circle,” Maulana Rashed, imam or leader of the London Ahmadiyya Muslim Mosque, told The Irish Times.

  • 'Poisonous' Muslim Holy Water on Sale in London

    London Net

MUSLIM Holy water sold in London "is poisonous", according to health experts. The sacred water, known as Zam Zam water, comes from a well in the Muslim Holy city of Mecca, but researchers have found that it is full of dangerous chemicals including arsenic. Bottles of Zam Zam water are allowed to be brought to the UK for personal use but, partly due to the health risks, they are not meant to be sold commercially.

  • Why does Britain have an Islamist problem while America doesn't? Answer: the welfare state

    Telegraph

London became the world terrorist hub partly because the country had a long tradition of shielding dissenters of all stripes; because it had a very unintrusive state compared to its European neighbours (no ID cards); and because of Britain’s historic links with many Arab countries. But there was another reason, and this is central to the reason why Europe has an Islamist problem and the United States doesn’t – the welfare state. Welfare is intimately linked to the failure of western European countries to integrate their Muslim populations, and explains why Britain has such a problem with Islamism.
