Why we must overcome our reluctance to help Pakistan in its hour of need

Telegraph

The reason that Western donors are dragging their feet over Pakistan’s disaster is the negative reputation the country has acquired for not pulling its weight in the fight against Islamist terror groups. Everyone knows that most of the terror plots against the UK have links to Pakistan, and the Taliban commanders who mastermind the deadly roadside bomb attacks against British and other Nato troops in southern Afghanistan are based in Pakistani-controlled terroritory on the other side of the border. The fact that the Pakistani government has been obliged to intervene to ensure that Islamist militants do not use charitable donatations to radicalise the despairing victims of the floods hardly lends encouragement to those in the West who would like to help the flood victims. It raises doubts about the wisdom of aiding those who ultimately wish to do us harm.
