Muslim's Should Vote

An ICM poll commissioned by BBC Asian Network interviewed people from an asian background. It suggests that just over 4 in 10 Asian voters intend to make the trip to the ballot box.

Among the Asian groups, people of Indian origin are deemed the most enthusiastic when it comes to participating in the election, while Pakistanis and Bangladeshis were less likely cast a vote.

It was suggested that this might be because of the religious beliefs they hold. As the majority of Bangladeshis and Pakistanis people follow Islam I can only assume that the reservers are suggesting Islam does not encourage democracy or voting in western countries.

In actual fact  in Islam, the democratic system is preferred and highly commended. The Holy Quran say’s

"Verily, Allah commands you to give over the trusts to those entitled to them, and that, when you judge between men, you judge with justice." (4:59)

The Holy Quran not only commands us to hand over the trust in the form of a vote to the people who are best fitted for the office but also command all Muslims to be loyal and obey the rule of the land which they live in.

The Holy Quran also say’s: "O ye who believe! Obey Allah, and obey His Messenger, and those who are in authority among you." (4:60

The worldwide leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community which I adhere to, has repeatedly emphasized this:

“A true Muslim can never raise his voice in hatred against his fellow citizens, nor for that matter against the ruling authority or government of the time... he should remain loyal and fully abide by the laws of the land of which he is a subject.”
