The day started at 11am with football matches for Khuddam and Atfal. Teams had already been made and the captains had been forewarned about their players. The setup for Atfal was something different because all of them were looking to wear the captain badge, however this was well taken care of by the Atfal Nazim. The teams were ready and the games started on time, thanks to the pre-planning by the event organisers. We were lucky to have the entire area behind the school, which consisted of a 7-a-side football pitch as well as a smaller one just next to it. Atfal and Khuddam both had their kits and football boots ready, and the matches were played with good team spirit. All matches were within two hours before they broke for tikka and sikh kebabs on the grills. They hugely deserved it after two hours of running.
Whilst the matches were on, the food team did an excellent job working to a tight schedule to prepare the food which was ready when the games were over. The odour of the delicious tikkas and kebabs spread around Maldon Manor school. The caretaker was also invited to join us for this delicious meal.
Following lunch, Qaid Sahib and other khuddam were ready for a taste of cricket. Two teams were created. The match commenced; the first team made a score greater than 100 runs which was an impossible chase for the other team. Several games were played, and around 4 o'clock Regional Qaid sahib joined us to show his fielding, batting and bowling skills with his shades on. The cricket was enjoyed by all participants, most of the Khuddam played whilst others enjoyed watching it and critiquing a player's bowling or batting; which is all part of the game.
Altogether, effectively more than 30 Khuddam and over 34 Atfal attended after numerous notifications. Alhamdulillah, the event was a resounding success and everyone left with a smile on their faces. The hard work was put in by the BBQ Committee as its planning had started many days ahead, and it was all backed up with input from all Khuddam who made this whole day event a successful social gathering. All praise belongs to Allah.
