MKA Clapham helped a charity shop.

 Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Helping Charities

Youth from Clapham helped FARA high street charity shop.

Three members of the Clapham Ahmadiyya Muslim Community volunteered their time for a charity work session at their local charity shop FARA in Southfields. Sultan Ahmad, Qamar Islam and Ahmad Malik arrived at 1pm and stayed until 6pm on the 7th of January 2010 to help go through a huge influx of donations that had been made to the charity over Christmas. The task itself involved picking out cloths, books and other items that were in good condition which could in turn be sold. This was a demanding task due to the sheer volume of donation bags that were filled with such items.

The FARA Foundation actively helps orphaned and abandoned children in Romania. Since the shocking conditions of Romanian orphanages were revealed in 1991, FARA has been operating to transform these children’s lives. Among the children that FARA supports are children that are living in extreme poverty, children living with no access to education and children with disabilities. The main help provided to these children is shelter, foster care families, medical aid and education which otherwise would have been denied to them.

Our volunteers that attended the charity session told us how they felt after they did the work.

-          I absolutely loved it. Apart from all the fun we had while sorting out the bags, at the end of the day I felt really good having spent my time in the shop knowing that this would really help the children in Romania.” – Sultan Ahmad

-          Getting out into the community changes your perspective in a positive way, but you may not realize that until afterwards” – Qamar Islam

-          From helping out in the charity shop I realized I needed to spend my life doing good.” Ahmad Malik.

Overall it was a very satisfying activity for our volunteers and they will be looking forward to helping out again at least once a month. Special thanks to Nick and Mrs. Mansoora who work at FARA Southfields.
