Earlsfield Ijtema 2010

 EARLSFIELD IJTEMA 2010 REPORT

24th January 2010

We have come to the concluding session of the 8th Annual Earlsfield Ijtema 2010.

The Ijtema started behind schedule at 11am with the opening session chaired by myself reading a letter from Sadr Majlis UK which emphasised on the blessings of Khilafat and its true significance. In addition it was also highlighted that as members of Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya we should be the “standard setters whose example seeks to improve the communities we live in.

Following the opening session we started the Academic competition with Tilawat. This year, unlike previous years due to the Ansar event coinciding with our Ijtema, we were not able to request assistance from our uncles! Therefore we requested Qaid Majlis Jamia to assist us by providing us with their future missionaries. In this regard I would like to thank Ayyaz Khan Sb, Qaid Sahib Jamia for his support.

The judges tried to ensure maximum khuddam participated in the Tilawat competition and in this regard, every single Khadim present with the exception of one participated.

Following the Tilawat competition we started the Nazm competiton, which too included good participation. In fact the judges also encouraged Qaid Majlis to take part.

Next we had Extempore Speech which was enjoyed by all, especially as one khadim, Muhammad Zafarullah, who will be an uncle next year amused the khuddam that once he was given a topic in which he was to speak on the postman. As what he could say on the topic was limited he managed to convert the title to a topic of his choice!

The topic ranged from religious to contemporary issues, from importance of prayers to the credit crises.

Following the Academic competition we had a panel Talqeene Amal! This proved successful as the Jamia students talked on our responsibility to pass the message of Islam and become active in tabligh. References were made to Pakistan where persecution is so rampant yet the tabligh is still ongoing. In contrast, in UK we have no restriction therefore we should take this opportunity to become active in the field of Tabligh.

After a much revitalising Talqeene Amal we were served with chicken salan and tandoori naan, finshing with choc ice as desert. In this regard special thanks goes to Sheikh Luqman Sb for cooking the food, may Allah reward him abundantly.

Straight after food we had Zohr and Asr namaz, which nicely brought us to the Sports competition. This included arm wrestling, coconut shy and handkerchief picking.

Arm wrestling proved to be a fierceful competition, so much so that it was difficult on deciding who the strongest khadim was. Finally it ended with four khuddam achieving first prize; a strain on our prizes budget!

The total attendance at this year’s Ijtema was 25 khuddam of which there 4 were guests. This makes the percentage participation of Khuddam at 47%. This is a decrease of 7% from previous year’s percentage, partly due to a few khuddam being out of the Country.

I would like to thank Daud Khan Sahib, Naib Sadr MKA for taking time to attend this Ijtema and for addressing the audience on a valuable topic of obedience.

I would like to thank the Ijtema Committee also and in particular Hamid Safeer Sb, Chairman Ijtema for his effort towards this Ijtema.

Finally, I would like to thank the khuddam for which without, this Ijtema could not prove successful.
