Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) Newham Branch, were out volunteering again this weekend as they collected for NSPCC at B&Q Beckton.

Collecting began on Saturday 24th April 2010 at 10am and continued throughout the weekend during store opening times.

The duty manager at B&Q Beckton was very supportive and ensured access was given to staff rest areas, as well as the onsite prayer room.

A total of 10 AMYA volunteers from Newham helped raise money at the store on a shift rota basis, ensuring there were always a minimum of two buckets and two volunteers present.

Store customers were very generous and helped AMYA raise just over £460 for NSPCC.

Nauman Khwaja, AMYA Youth Leader Newham said "Ahmadiyya Muslims are taught to love their country and nation, and raising money for charity is one way we can demonstrate this... Islam is a religion of Peace, and it's teachings contain many instructions for Muslims to act charitably"

It is hoped that the money will be well received by the NSPCC and will help to end cruelty towards children.

AMYA UK will be holding its annual charity walk on 9th May 2010, this event had been held every year since 1986 and over half a million in aid has been raised for various national and local charities, more details can be found on mkacc.org.
