Birmingham Central Ijtema 2010 Report

Local Ijtema for Birmingham Central took place on 24th January 2010 at Darul Barakaat Mosque in Birmingham.

Preparation

Preparation for the Ijtema began a couple of months prior to the Ijtema. Myself being appointed as Nazim-e-Ala by our Qaid, Asif Abdul, I formed a committee of six members to look after the organization of the event, including planning and execution. We had in total three meetings in which the different sections of the Ijtema were discussed at length. That included defining the academic and sports competitions, registration layout, discussing the prizes, special guests, nominating judges, foods and most importantly the attendance.

Ijtema Day

Registration began at 9am. First we started with the sports session, in which the participation and competition was very healthy. Sports included Badminton, Table-Tennis, Table Football and Arm Wrestling.

Zuhr and Asr namaz was combined at 1pm after which lunch was served. Lunch consisted of biriyani and raita. Immediately after lunch the opening session took place. Shiraz Sethi, Mohtamim Khidmat-e-Khalq, chaired the session The academics followed; this consisted of Tilawat, Nazm, English & Urdu Speeches, Adhan and Paigham-e-Rasani.

The final session took place at 5pm which also consisted of the prize distribution and concluding final words by Shiraz Sethi Sahib, who was representing Sadr Majlis.

Overall the Ijtema wa an enjoyable experience for those who attended. I pray that we build on this in the future years and continue to grow spiritially and mentally as Khuddam of the Jama'at, Ameen.
