Report for MKA Midlands Regional Ijtema - 14th March 2010
Planning for the Ijtema started some 12 weeks before the Ijtema even began. A committee was formed and a number of formal and informal meetings were held. We wanted to make the Ijtema bigger and better than previous years and try to make it stand out. The attendance campaign was co-ordinated by me and Regional Motamid, Syed Junaid Anwar Sahib.
The day started with the sports competitions at two different sites. Football was held at Saltley Leisure Centre, where 8 teams battled very bravely for the title from last year’s champions, Walsall. However, Walsall played very well and managed to secure their title in spite of the very high standard shown by the other teams.
Badminton and Squash were organised at Aston University. We thought we would try Squash for the first time in the Regional Ijtema. Unfortunately, Squash was not too popular with the Khuddam and we only had a handful of participants. The Badminton competition, as always, was very well received and the competition was fierce this year. These competitions managed to work up a healthy appetite for the Khuddam and they were promptly rewarded with a scrumptious lunch prepared by Ahmed Wadood Chaudhry Sahib. This was followed by Zuhr and a short speech on the Ijtema theme of 'Obedience; by Waqar Ahmad Ahmedi Sahib.
Although the Sporting competitions were opened with Tilawat and The Khuddam Pledge in their respective venues, we held a formal opening session where all the Khuddam came together for the first time in the day after Zuhr. This session started as per tradition, with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an and The Khuddam Pledge led by Mohtamim Khidmat-e-Khalq, Shiraz Sehti Sahib. This was followed by a Hadith and a few opening words from Dr Bilal Bhatti Sahib, Regional Qaid Midlands and Shiraz Sehti Sahib, the attending representative of the National Majlis-e-Amila. After some brief announcements, we had presentations from the National Blood Donation Service, the Ahmadiyya Muslim Research Association and the British Army. This was a change to the usual schedule of Regional Ijtemas and gave the Khuddam some food for thought on some very humbling issues.
Mirza Irfan Akram Sahib was charged with the responsibility of organising the academic competitions and did a great job in this regard. Apart from the usual Tilawat, Adhan, Nazm, prepared Urdu/English speech and extempore speech, we decided to include a viral competition in the Academics. Since the theme of the Ijtema was 'Obedience', Regional Qaid Sahib selected this topic for the viral competition. Each Qiadat was told about this competition about a month before the Ijtema and were given the specific rules, namely, that the video could not be longer than 2 minutes and had to stick to the topic of 'Obedience'. It was explained that the winner of this competition would get the added bonus of having their work published on the Khuddam website (www.khuddam.org.uk/regions/midlands) for all to see. We were not sure how well this competition would be received, but our fears were proved wrong when the Qiadats came up with some very imaginative and rather special virals, Masha’Allah. It is rare that a viral does not require any amendments to be made before it can be put on the website and obviously, some minor changes will need to be made to the winning viral before we can submit it for publication on the website. Whilst Asr Salaat was offered during a small break in the Academics, the end of the Viral competition slotted very well before the start of the Maghrib Salaat.
The final session was chaired by Shiraz Sehti Sahib and began with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an, and was followed by The Khuddam Pledge. This was followed by a Nazm and the Prize Distribution ceremony. This year, we decided to acknowledge those Khuddam who had achieved academic excellence as a means for not only appreciating their hard work, but also as a source of inspiration to other Khuddam to excel in academic pursuits. These Khuddam were:

Next, I delivered the Ijtema report. Alhamdulillah, 124 Khuddam and 7 guests attended the Ijtema this year, which was an increase of 18% from the previous year. The session ended with an inspiring speech from Sadr Majlis read out by Shiraz Sehti Sahib and a few final thoughts from Regional Qaid Sahib and myself. Before leading everyone in silent prayer, Maulana Abdul Ghuffar Sahib announced the news of the Nikah of Regional Qaid Sahib the day before and that traditional sweets were available for all the guests at the end.
Alhamdulillah, the Ijtema was a very successful one. There are a lot of people who are deserving of thanks and you will just need to refer to the table below to see how the work was shared. It is Allah’s special grace and blessing that we were able to hold such a successful event. I pray that Allah rewards all those people who sacrificed their time and energy towards this Ijtema. I have learned a lot of lessons from this Ijtema and we can use these lessons to make the next one even more successful, Insha’Allah. May the Almighty Allah make it so, Ameen.
