Report of Charity Football and Volleyball match hosted by

Birmingham West Qiadat, Midlands Region

 

By the grace of Allah, after a spell of days of rain the day of the event, Sunday 12th September 2010, turned out to be a day of glorious sunshine!  The Birmingham West Qiadat organised a charity football and volleyball event to raise money for Acorns (a local Midlands charity that runs children’s hospices) and Humanity First (in aid of the Pakistan flood appeal).The Acorns charity was recommended to Nazim Tabligh MKA Midlands, Thauban Mwanje Sahib, by a local Police Officer Sgt Collin Gallier, who has developed a good relationship with the Mosque through previous events.

The event started at 1.00pm with football and volleyball at Bearmoor Park in Cradeley Heath, Birmingham, with some local councillors in attendance, to watch and enjoy the young and the old members of the Ahmadiyya Community, local youth and Police take part in a friendly tournament.

The sports event finished at 3:45pm with the Police snatching a win of 2-1 from the Walsall Qiadat team. There were food and refreshments available throughout the sports session. The volleyball was won by the Birmingham West Ansar team.

Everyone then retired to the main hall of the Baitul Mahdi Mosque in Birmingham West. The final session started at 4:00pm with a number of special guests in attendance. The programme started with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an by Mirza Muzaffar Sahib, followed by English translation by Mr. Muzaffar Clarke Sahib.

The President of Birmingham West Jama’at, Dr Masood Majoka Sahib, gave a short welcome address. Naib Regional Qaid MKA Midlands, Dr Nadeem Ahmed Sahib, give a brief introduction to the Jama’at for the non-Ahmadi guests. The local manager of Acorns, Mrs Toni Hasler, talked about the Charity and thanked the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community for organising such an event. She said;

"I want to say a huge thank you to you for the lovely event that I attended. You really put so much effort into it, and I really enjoyed meeting you all and being part of this special occasion.”  

The local councillors Mrs. Ann Shackleton, Mrs. Liz Bowler, the local vicar Rev. Hillary and the Deputy Inspector of Police for Cradeley Heath all attended this function which attracted more than 45 non-Ahmadi guests.

Mrs. Ann Shackleton said, "...with the Ahmadiyya motto ‘Love for all Hatred for None’ this is the key and a tool to have peace in the local community.

There were cheque presentations to Humanity First and Acorns respectively, followed by silent prayer which was led by Regional Ameer Midlands, Dr Syed Ahmed Farooq Sahib. Over £2,000 was raised in total which was split up between the two charities.  A big thank you goes to everyone in the region who made this programme possible and very successful.

The event concluded with a sumptuous BBQ organised by various members from the whole Midlands region, which topped off the whole day perfectly!
