Worcester Park Khuddam on National Hiking Trip

Khuddam from Worcester Park were one of those few enthusiastic Khuddam who attended the National Hiking event at Derbyshire, Peak District on 22nd November 2009.  It was a day of cold breezes and rainy weather, but 11 devoted Khuddam from the Worcester Park Qiadat met up in the afternoon at Musawir Sahib’s residence in Malden Manor on 21st November 2009. Musawir Idrees Sahib and Waheed Sahib were very helpful and took their vehicles to the trip on a very short notice. As all Khuddams gathered, we were finally ready to leave when it started to rain. A silent prayer was held by Idrees Sahib at start of the trip. We had a quick stop at a supermarket in London where Wajahat Karim and Khizer Ahmed bought some snacks and drinks for everyone during the journey.

Both cars had constant communication via Walkie-Talkies to make sure we did not lose each other on the busy highways. The car journey was very pleasant and we passed our time with discussions on topical issues as well as on deciding the plans for the day. We reached Birmingham City in the evening and headed towards Darul Barakaat, the Birmingham Ahmadiyya Mosque. We were cordially welcomed by our Ahmadi brothers at the mosque. As we moved our luggage into the excellent room that we were given, the time for Ishaa Salaat approached. All of us were very delighted with the hospitality from the Birmingham Jama'at. The Salaat was led by Maulana Abdul Ghaffar Sahib, Regional Missionary for Midlands.

We all were very eager to explore the city and decided to have a Pakistani dinner at a Birmingham restaurant.  Our fellows from Birmingham recommended a few places, but Wajahat who is familiar with the city was leading us in the search of a good place to dine in. After calm arguments and different opinions and an hour long search for the right place, we finally arrived at Ladypool Road. The place was synonymous to well known places like Tooting Broadway and Southall. After a great some consideration we decided to eat at a famous restaurant known as “The Lahori Village”.

On the way back to the mosque we enjoyed the city centre with a drive through the empty roads. The room that was given to our Qiadat was very nice with good facilities. Before going to sleep, many of us enjoyed the debates on some topics where all young Khuddam contributed and expressed their views.

We started the next day with the Fajr prayer, which was again led by Murabbi Sahib. Our generous brothers also prepared some specialties and tea before our departure.  At departure, Murabbi Sahib Birmingham came outside to bid farewell and carry out a silent prayer. As we had a long trip ahead from Birmingham to Derbyshire, we decided to have a Halwa Poorie breakfast from "The Lahori Village".

We left early in the morning and reached the Castleton Village Car Park at around 11am. We were welcomed by Dr Aziz Hafiz Sahib, Naib Sadr Majlis, and started the hike after a small narration of the route.

With the blessing of Allah Almighty, it did not rain heavily. It was a more challenging task to walk up the mountains for those who were not well prepared. With the guidance of Dr Aziz Sahib we reached the peak of the mountain. We took some great group photographs and then had lunch.

It was getting colder and the route going down the hills was a bigger challenge than walking up. The path leading us back down to the car park was very slippery and muddy.  However, all of our Khuddam were fascinated by the beautiful sights and natural beauty created by Allah Almighty.

But the overall excitement of the event was still there. As we reached the car park, most of us changed into dry clothes.  We were then invited to join Dr Aziz Sahib for tea at a local cafe shop.

After the wonderful tea provided by Dr Aziz Sahib with freshly baked scones, we made our way back to London. As we were heading back home, most of us decided to have dinner together. Thus we stopped at a service station and had some food.

It was a great event and many of us are looking forward to another exciting event, and in fact a more challenging one.
