The Gracious God is Swift in Reckoning

My dear brothers Khuddam and Atfal,

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah. May the Lord of mankind open unto you the gates of His mercy and may He so ordain that you are always accompanied by the supplication of His angels.

The experience of Allah’s boundless and magnificent beneficence once absorbed can never be forgotten. Many of us will have experienced the warmth of His miracles in the depths of our hearts, yet there are times when rather sadly, some fail to recognise even the most basic of His diverse and magnificent blessings. His benevolence is so all encompassing that He is willing to bestow blessings upon us not just when we ask of Him, but even when we do not out of love for His creation. The air that we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, the health we enjoy and the sunlight we bask in; these are just a few of the infinite favours that demonstrate Allah’s affection for mankind.

In his last Friday Sermon, Huzur Aqdas (atba) cited numerous examples from the life of the Holy Prophet (saw), the Promised Messiah (as) and his Khulafa, of Allah’s vast bounty and also the effects of incurring His displeasure.

Allah says in the Holy Qur’an:

“And He gives you all that you ask of Him, and if you try to count the favours of Allah, you will not be able to number them.” (Ch.14:V.35)

History is witness to Allah’s astonishing graciousness – graciousness that safeguards from deprivation each of those who place their complete and utter trust in Allah. The most perfect examples of such interminable trust can be found in His appointed Messengers. Manifesting itself in many ways, time and time again these Prophets have reflected an indifference to worldly objects that cannot help but stir and inspire all those who seek righteousness and the comfort of Allah’s cradle.

Huzur Aqdas(atba)’s Friday Sermon was particularly thought provoking for those who seek to understand more about the spectrum of Allah’s relationship with man. Huzur (atba) narrated numerous instances of Allah’s generosity to His Messengers and their Khulafa.

Yet, such examples of generosity are also reflected in their outstanding conduct. The most perfect messenger of them all was our Beloved Holy Prophet of Islam (saw) who once said that even if he had been granted gold as high as the mount of Uhud, he would be happier if he was left with just enough for discharging debts. Indeed, the Holy Prophet (saw) was so munificent that he had gifted Sufyan bin Umayyah (ra) three hundred camels and is known to have conferred upon another an entire herd of goats.

The Promised Messiah (as) was also very charitable. Once when a man who was to embark on a journey requested him for some money, the Promised Messiah (as) presented him with his moneybox. With the most incredible trust that Allah would never leave him destitute, the Promised Messiah (as) said that the traveller was free to take the entire contents of the moneybox.

Such benevolence should inspire us to also be generous both in the financial sacrifice we make in the cause of Allah and in our obligations to mankind. Allah’s reward for spending in His service is manifold. Sadly, despite Allah’s gifts and favours, there are those whose opaque understanding of life and spirituality cause them to spurn Allah and His Messengers. They are the unfortunate ones and for them lies a grievous chastisement. Their examples should remind us that whilst Allah is Merciful and Bountiful, His punishment for those that fail to follow His command and act with haughtiness and indifference to His injunctions is severe.

For us, as devoted members of the Promised Messiah(as)’s Jama’at, our responsibilities are great. We set the standard and example for those who seek righteousness and in doing so, we must at every turn recognise Allah’s greatness and graciousness with humility and thankfulness. May Allah enable us all to do so and may He grant us refuge in Himself against the punishment of His wrath. Ameen.

Wassalam.

Yours humbly,
Tommy Kallon.
