My dear brothers Khuddam and Atfal,
Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah. May the Lord of mankind open unto you the gates of His mercy and may He so ordain that you are always accompanied by the supplication of His angels.
Muslim Andalusia was one of the finest examples of civilisation, culture, intellectual rigour and religious co-existence in the last one thousand years; all under the mantle of Islamic rule. Just over 500 years after the last of the Muslims were ejected from Spain, that country serves as a telling reminder of the parlous state of the current Muslim world.
In his Friday Sermon last week, Hadhrat Ameerul Mumineen (atba), addressing the world from the first Mosque built in Spain (Masjid Basharat, Pedrobad) since the height of that rule over 800 years ago, reminded the Jama’at of the task before it. With the Western world and indeed Islamic countries in a state of moral and social depravity, Huzur Aqdas (atba) called upon the Jama’at to ensure that the spiritual revolution that had been reignited by the Promised Messiah (as) was made a reality in the lives of each and every Ahmadi Muslim.
Huzur (atba) drew on the example of Maulvi Karam Ilahi Zafar Sahib, the first Ahmadi Muslim missionary to Spain, as an example of one who was wholly committed to the cause of Ahmadiyyat and the call of Khilafat. Despite the paucity of financial resources available to the Jama’at, Maulvi Karam Ilahi Zafar Sahib showed great resourcefulness in learning how to produce perfumes while in London so that in Spain he was able to put his skills to use to produce and sell perfume thus allowing him to earn a living and carry on his missionary work. It is examples of such pioneering missionaries of the Jama’at which serve to inspire future generations of Ahmadi Muslims.
For the current and future generations of the Jama’at, Huzur Aqdas (atba) gave a timely reminder of our duties as Ahmadis and of the dangers to us all, but in particular to our youth, of straying away from the pure and wholesome pursuits of life.
Huzur (atba) gave a number of examples of the types of vice such as gambling and alcohol which posed great dangers to society. Reminding us that both of these vices are ismul kabeer (great sin) and are playing havoc in much of the Muslim world, Huzur (atba) warned Ahmadi Muslims to guard themselves against such threats and reminded the Jama’at of the tradition of the Holy Prophet (saw) where he is reported to have said that one who forgets the teachings of Islam will see destruction.
As Huzur (atba) highlighted, ultimately, as followers of the greatest devotee of the Holy Prophet (saw) who has ever lived and as individuals who have taken a Bai’at at the hands of the Khalifa of the time, it is incumbent upon us to be ever mindful of the purpose of our creation, as we are told in the Holy Qur’an, “And I have not created the jinn and the man but that they may worship me.” (Ch.51:V.57)
Referring again to the past splendour of Muslim Spain, Huzur (atba) concluded that today it is the task of Ahmadi Muslims to re-establish the glory of Islam by becoming practical examples of the teachings of Islam.
May Allah enable us to be shining beacons in this new dawn of Islamic glory and be ever responsive to the call of Khilafat.
Wassalam.
Yours humbly,
Tommy Kallon.
