AMY Aldershot 0 – 1 Mytchett Athletic
AMY Aldershot’s slow start to 2022 continued with a defeat against Mytchett Athletic at home today. Following on from a draw last week the team was eager to return to winning ways and started the game brightly putting Mytchett under pressure early on and playing some nice football in and around the opposition area with the clearest opportunity of the first half falling to Meshan when Ata played a delicious chipped through ball only for the keeper to pull off a great save, a late flag was raised but the keeper wasn’t to know that.
However, as has been the story of AMY’s start to 2022 they were unable to capitalise on the possession and Mytchett were looking dangerous on the counter with their striker causing the defence problems with his hold up play and bringing his team in to the game. As the half went on the free flowing and fluid football had become stagnant and frustrations becoming apparent as AMY continuously lost the ball in the opposition half allowing them to counter. All credit to Mytchett who congested the middle to make it very difficult to play through them, but AMY should have done better to bring their wingbacks Suj and Jordan more into the game as they struggled through the middle.
Around the 30 min mark, following a good save from Tahir a poor pass out from the back led to an attack from Mytchett with their striker receiving the ball 25 yards out in acres of space and letting a shot fly that nestled in the side netting to give the away team a 1-0 lead. AMY Manager Danish was not impressed with what he had seen so far and made a double change with Firaz coming on for Khaliq and Musa coming on for Hasaan. The rest of the half scrappy from both sides and the teams went into the break with Mytchett winning 1-0.
Second half, AMY dropped back into their more familiar 4-5-1 setup and tried to take the game to Mytchett who were now happy to stick 10 men behind the ball and hold on to their 1 goal advantage. AMY tried valiantly to break down a strong Mytchett defensive block but the Mytchett wall stood firm. Around the 70th min Danial was introduced on the wing in place of Meshan, after switching to the left wing Danial’s direct play started causing issues for the Mytchett back line. Following more good play down the left Ata had an opportunity which hit the post with the rebound blasted over from close range by Musa.
AMY were now knocking on the door with the skipper Shah, Ata and Firaz bossing the middle, Danial and Suj causing problems down the wing and Musa just waiting for that one chance. That chance presented itself shortly after with good work down the left by Danial who drilled in a low cross which was met on the volley by Musa’s right foot only for it fly over the bar as he leant back trying to reach for it. Mogeeb came on in the last 10 minutes in place of Shah to allow Ata to push further up the pitch in search of an equaliser and showed some nice touches with some tidy one-two touch passing which kept the play ticking.
AMY were searching hard for the equaliser and were pushing higher and higher up the pitch as the back line of Danish, Shehrose, Danial and Jordan had kept the Mytchett strike quiet for whole of the second half. However, that all important goal eluded AMY and the game ended 1-0 to Mytchett.
Lack of quality all over the pitch had cost AMY the 3 points today, they must improve drastically if they are to return to winning ways against title challengers Hartley Wintney A at home next Saturday.
