Fazl Mosque Regional Sports Day and Ijtema

Alhamdulillah, by the grace of Allah Almighty, Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya Fazl Mosque Region organized its annual Ijtema. Sports Day was held on the 13th of March and the Final Day on the 19th of March.

The Ijtema was formally initiated with the sports competitions at cannons ground on Sunday 13th March. The Khuddam were welcomed to a breakfast consisting of various bakeries and tea, as well as fruits. The program started at 9:00am with the opening session including recitation of the Holy Quran, Khuddam pledge, followed by the silent prayer. After the opening session the sports competitions were held for Khuddam, which included the cricket tournament, the football tournament, darts, shotput, sabit qadmi and tug of war. When the adhan was heard, our Khuddam joined prayer in congregation. After Zohr and Asr prayers, our Khuddam listened to a faith inspiring address by Murrabi sahib about the many ways we can honour our pledge, and how we can show complete and utter obedience to Khilafat. The sport competitions concluded at 5:00pm. During the day there was a rolling lunch consisting of Biryani for the participants to enjoy.

Our sports day was held with a keen eye towards ensuring the hygiene and safety of all the participants. For the Ijtema, a covid officer was appointed to solely focus on minimising the risk of infection at event and to enforce covid protocols. Further, all Khuddam required proof of a negative LFT test before being able to enter the premises, and sanitisers were readily available for our Khuddam. Since the playing fields are a public place, it was pleasing to see that the Khuddam were not littering, and in fact many Khuddam were seen collecting litter regularly grounds.

For the final day, which is today, Khuddam were welcomed again to a selectiv-e breakfast and warm beverages. The Ijtema opening session formally began at 10:20am led by Attaur Rahim Ahsan sahib. He discussed the theme of this year’s Ijtema, honouring our pledge, and followed this with a short informal discussion with the Khuddam present about various aspects of the Khuddam pledge.

The academic competitions of the regional Ijtema commenced after the opening session at 10:50am.

Once the academic competitions, which consisted of Tilawat, Nazm, Adhan, Prepared Speech, and Extempore Speech, concluded at 1:30pm, everyone offered congregational Zohr and Asr prayer.

This year, we had a delicious menu of steamed roast chicken, chicken pilau, lamb korma, naan, salad, and raita. For dessert, there was gajar halwa and chai.

For the final session we were joined by Respected Sadr Sb MKA UK, Abdul Quddus Arif Sb. Sadr Sb led an interactive Q&A session with Khuddam which taught Khuddam various key lessons about the theme of ijtema and many other challenges which Khuddam may face.

This year the total attendance of Khuddam was 187 out of a possible 253 despite the precautions we had to take regarding the pandemic. We strongly favour the safety and wellbeing of our Khuddam and as such showed extra compassion for those who may be at risk. Our final attendance for this year’s Annual Ijtema was 74% We also had the opportunity to serve 21 guests at this year’s Ijtema.
